What is a trigger finger?

Trigger finger is a condition that is often painful, characterized by snagging during finger movements (especially when opening the fingers). It is the discomfort of the flexor tendons on the inner surface of the hand. Although it is most common in the little (pinky) finger and thumb, it can occur in all fingers. The finger gets stuck when opening and often opens with a “click” sound with the help of the other hand. If left untreated, as the process progresses, inflammation increases in the afflicted area and the pain can reach an uncomfortable level. The finger can no longer be opened at all.
